Delaware County School District Transportation

SONIM XP STRIKE DEVICES KEEP MAINTENANCE, FACILITIES MANAGEMENT AND TRANSPORTATION CREWS CONNECTED TO KEEP KIDS SAFE.

The District
Comprised of seven individual schools, the Haverford School District’s current student enrollment is approximately 5,475, with the town occupants numbering over 49,000. Residents have five choices for grades kindergarten through fifth, including: Lynnewood, Chatham Park, Chestnutwold, Manoa, Coopertown, and elementary schools. As the students get older they move on to Haverford Middle school, grades 6-8, and Haverford High School, grades 9-12.

The residents of Haverford Township benefit from a wide range of services from the prominent school district, including Adult Evening School and Delaware County Community College courses. Haverford, who is still an active member of the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, strives to ensure that his school district maintains partnerships with the local universities and colleges, service organizations, businesses, retailers, community groups and senior citizen organizations.

The Challenge
In order to keep successful school districts running smoothly, multiple departments across seven campuses need to work together seamlessly and communicate effectively. Haverford school district’s administration, maintenance and transportation teams are trained to react quickly to solve any issue that could potentially disrupt a typical school day. With the help from multiple communication devices, including cell phones, landlines, 2-way radios, and security cameras, the district’s communications specialist Tom Straub keeps his team connected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The maintenance and ground crews are constantly in the field fixing issues and maintaining the properties. An instant form of reliable communication is crucial when it comes to connecting departments that are miles apart. In addition to communicating effectively, Haverford field workers experience all types of weather conditions. With the constant threat of rain, snow and extreme seasonal temperatures, workers noticed their previously deployed mobile devices could not keep up.

The Solution
After experimenting with a traditional paging system, personal pagers/ beepers, 2-way radios and basic rugged handsets, Tom soon realized none of these options were the mobile solution for which they were searching. Not until Nextel shut down their towers, and he was tired of constantly fixing devices, did Tom switch to Sonim’s ultimate rugged solution. The Haverford School District deployed XP STRIKE handsets with its maintenance and grounds crew teams, purchased through their reliable Sprint Network. The Sonim XP STRIKE provides workers with the highest protection against all environmental damage and offers users a clear PTT, connection, two of the main causes of issues in the maintenance industry. With an IP-68 certification, resistant to water up to 6.5 ft for 30 mins, and an operational range from -5°F to +130°F, the XP STRIKE can stand up against the rough weather conditions present in Pennsylvania.

“The Rugged Handsets That We Used Before We Found The Sonim XP STRIKE, Provided A Weak Connection Between Properties And Made It Hard To Hear Because Everything Came Through Muffled, Like You Were Talking Under Water.”

The Benefits
After Haverford School District switched to the Sonim XP STRIKE, field workers have been equipped with a working rugged device at all times. No matter how harsh the weather, the devices keep on working through back-to-back shifts which has greatly improved campus coordination and manager to crew communication.

“My Men Were Constantly Telling Me The Devices We Had Invested Our Time And Money
In Were Not Worth The Trouble. It Was Time To Find A Reliable Handset That Wouldn’t Have Us Running To The Repair Shop On A Weekly Basis.”

After A Year And A Half Of Deployment, The Haverford School District Has Not Needed A Replacement Device For Their Sonim XP STRIKEs, Thus Dropping Their Replacement Fees To Zero And Reducing Worker Downtime From Faulty Handsets.
